House Odour and Mould Treatment

House Odour and Mould Treatment in Auckland

Cigarette smoke in a rental, pet smells in the carpet, or a musty house with mould on the window frames. We deep clean the house first, then run an ozone treatment for the smell that has soaked into carpets, curtains, furniture and walls. The same approach we use on cars, applied to your home.

In short: Details That Matter treats house odours and surface mould across Auckland with a deep clean followed by an ozone treatment. It costs $550 to $700 for a 1 to 2 bedroom home, $750 to $950 for 3 bedrooms and $950 to $1,250 for 4 bedrooms, including GST, and owner Josh Brits does the work himself.

What the treatment includes

Ozone on its own can't shift a smell that is still sitting in a carpet or a film of smoke on the walls. So every job starts with a deep clean of the places smells live, then the ozone goes in.

Smells and problems we treat

Cigarette smoke

Smoke leaves a sticky film on walls, ceilings, curtains and carpets, and the smell keeps coming off it for years. The film gets cleaned off first, then the ozone treatment deals with what's left. Years of heavy indoor smoking can need more than one treatment, or repainting, and we'll tell you that before we start.

Pet smells

Pet urine soaks through carpet into the underlay, which is why surface sprays never last. Hot-water extraction gets it out of the carpet, and the ozone treatment takes care of the lingering smell in the rest of the house.

Musty houses and surface mould

Auckland's humidity, cold rooms and poor ventilation make musty houses common, especially over winter. We clean visible surface mould off walls, ceilings, window frames and soft furnishings, then treat the smell. We don't do structural mould remediation: if mould is coming from a leak, rising damp or inside the walls, that cause needs fixing by a builder or ventilation specialist, or it comes back.

Rentals and end of tenancy

Smoke and pet smells between tenants make a property hard to re-let. A deep clean plus ozone treatment gets it ready for the next tenant, and we're happy to work with landlords and property managers.

Where a house sits in its range depends on how strong the smell is, how much soft furnishing there is to clean, and the state of the carpets.

What to expect on the day

Ozone is a lung irritant, so people, pets and house plants are out of the house for the whole ozone stage, and the house is opened up and aired out thoroughly before anyone goes back in. Josh tells you when it's ready. Long, high-dose ozone exposure can damage rubber, some plastics and artwork, so treatment times are kept controlled. Josh walks through the house with you first and flags anything to move or cover.

How long it takes and where we work

Time depends on the size of the house and how strong the smell is. Josh confirms how long the job takes, and how long you'll need to be out, when he quotes.

We cover the whole of Auckland: Auckland Central, North Shore, West Auckland, East Auckland and South Auckland. For a smelly car, see car odour and mould removal.

Why DTM

Details That Matter is a detailing business, so cleaning things properly is the whole job. The same source-first approach we use on car interiors works in a house: find where the smell lives, clean that out, then treat what's left.

A deep clean first: hot-water extraction of carpets and rugs, cleaning of couches, mattresses and curtains, wiping down walls, skirting, benches and cupboards, and cleaning vents and heat pump or ventilation filters. Then an ozone treatment for the smell that has soaked into the house, and a full airing out.
